MO History Museum: Maps for Genealogists

Maps for Genealogists
Emily Jaycox

There’s much more to maps than simply finding directions, as Head Librarian Emily Jaycox will reveal in this in-depth presentation. Historic maps depicting former boundaries and landmarks can give you a better understanding of your ancestors’ experiences. Several specialized types of maps—including plats, fire insurance maps, and geological survey maps—can even reveal new facts about your family history. Pairing maps with other primary sources can yield even more information and help you feel as if you’re “walking where they walked.”
